Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew says the Europa League has been great for the career of summer signing Gael Bigirimana.

The former Coventry City midfielder has shone when called upon this season.

Pardew said: "If I had to pick out a player who really emerged from the run it would be Gael Bigirimana.

"In terms of a young player who was called upon to do a difficult job, he did really well and announced his arrival here.

"He has not had many chances, but he handled the group stage games and that was a step up for him. Bigi is a great lad and a terrific pro."
