Newcastle United boss Kevin Keegan was delighted with new signing Danny Guthrie's performance in the weekend's friendly victory over Hartlepool United.

Keegan said: "He's a typical Liverpool player - he passes the ball so well.

"I wanted to play him from the start but he had a niggle with sore shins. But four or five minutes from coming on, he had made a goal and scored a goal.

"He was very good."
