Newcastle United boss John Carver has likened avoiding relegation to the Championship with winning a cup.

The Toon confirmed their Premier League status after defeating West Ham United 2-0 on the final day of the season and Carver was in a buoyant mood in the wake of the monumental victory.

Carver said: "It feels like you have just won the cup, that's what it feels like. I actually sit here now feeling like I have won the cup, and wouldn't it be great in the future to be sitting here having won a cup?"

Moussa Sissoko and Jonas Gutierrez scored second-half goals as the Magpies preserved their place in the top flight for another season at the expense of Hull City who drew 0-0 with Manchester United at the KC Stadium.
