Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce is keen to see Dwight Gayle offered a new contract.
Gayle is out of contract this summer, and Bruce revealed on Tuesday he wants to keep him.
He said: “I want to do everything we can to get him tied up. We will do our best."
Gayle also said, “I am feeling confident. Getting more people up around me is helping my game. Playing alongside someone like Callum (Wilson) is a good thing.
“Him and Joelinton have been doing really well. It just shows if you get two strikers playing together and are able to be defensively solid, which we have been, is will work well for us.
“I think sometimes a defender isn't able to go as tight as they want with the knowledge of someone looking after them if it doesn't go right. It makes it more difficult for them. That is a benefit. That can't (go so tight) if there is two of you up there."
