Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce hopes to have transfer funds released in talks with owner Mike Ashley.

Ashley attended last night's FA Cup replay win over Rochdale.

Bruce is now set for talks with Ashley in the next 24 hours and said: “Nothing planned just yet. He is here for a day or two and we will meet up, yeah.

"He has been supportive and if there is someone who can improve us we will try to act. I will only add to improve us. That is the conversation.

“My take is we have had one or two who we couldn't get. We have a couple of plates spinning. If I can't improve the team I have got to be patient to wait. You see the difference Saint-Maximin has made and Almiron."

Bruce added: "We had 30k here, an unbelievable crowd. They responded to us saying we can have a cup run."
