Newcastle boss Bruce fumes: We'll find this treacherous MOLE

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has blasted the mole inside the club after leaks confirmed a bust-up with Matt Ritchie.

Bruce confirmed he had banned a Daily Mail reporter after the story broke.

He: "There is no denying that I had a row with Matt Ritchie. These things happen every week. Unfortunately, for us at Newcastle, it gets blown up into all sorts of proportion.

"As far as I'm concerned, Matty apologised. But it then leaks into the media and causes a frenzy which, at this particular time, with a big game coming up, we could do without it. We have to get on with it.

"It happens up and down the country but it doesn't get out. Unfortunately, he (the journalist) has a source in and around the club, which obviously feeds him. That is the most disappointing thing, which we are all looking into to try and find out the culprit. It borders on treason. It's wholly disgusting.

"The source has to be someone from within. Unfortunately, it happens too often. That's the biggest disappointment for us all. We will try our utmost to see who it is."

Some of Bruce's players were unhappy last week when they suspected he had leaked news of Darlow being dropped to a national newspaper.

But the manager said: "I have to say, I find the story that I would go to a journalist and give him an exclusive that Karl Darlow wouldn't be playing at the weekend, I find it totally disgusting. If I thought I would do that, I would resign tomorrow. It's not true."

Ritchie apologised for insulting the boss 24 hours after their showdown, and Bruce added: "The following day Matt trained well and came in and apologised to me in front of the staff and players. From that point on it's done with and we move on. Unfortunately, it's been regurgitated in a newspaper.

"It's not destabilising. It's disappointing, because unfortunately we have someone around us who leaks things to a national newspaper.

"We will use that, and I will use it, and I am absolutely 100 per cent behind the players. We've been playing very well over the last few weeks and all I can focus on now is getting the best out of the team and the players."

Asked if he regretted his post-match interview after the draw with Wolves, Bruce said: "I tried to be truthful with the way I saw events after the game.

"In hindsight, yes, it could have been better, the interview, I accept that."
