Newcastle to blood youth for Adelaide United clash

Newcastle Jets coach Branko Culina has confirmed that he will blood two youngsters for their final match of the home and away season.

The Jets take on Adelaide United at home tonight but have a long injury list meaning Culina will need to make changes.

Three of those include handing debuts to Scott Balderson and Mirjan Pavlovic and deploying promising striker Jason Hoffman (who is off to Melbourne Heart next season) in the starting line-up.

''Those three boys will get their chance - Pavlovic will definitely start and Balderson is definitely a chance, with Hoffman most likely to get a start as well,'' Culina said last night.

''In hindsight, we could have put them in earlier - but I hate throwing young players into the team. I believe you should bring them in when the team is largely settled, not when you really need a result, like we do right now to get our confidence back up before the finals.

''Still, without a doubt, this is their opportunity. If they can do the job, they'll definitely find themselves in contention even when the senior players come back.''
