Newcastle United blocked Remie Streete from moving out on-loan before yesterday's Football League deadline.
The Evening Chronicle says Streete was recalled from Port Vale last week because of injuries to Fabricio Coloccini and Steven Taylor.
However, United did not want to take a chance on allowing Streete on loan despite returns to training for the duo.
There was no shortage in interest for Streete as the loan deadline approached with Blackpool and Sheffield Wednesday thought to be keen on his services.
Newcastle, though, will revisit the situation in January when he can discuss a loan move with a Football League club until the end of the season.
