Newcastle United have made an approach to Preston North End for Keith Treacy.
The Sunday Sun says Toon see Treacy as an alternative to No1 target Charles N'Zogbia, of Wigan Athletic.
United have now made an enquiry about the player, who is available for around £1.5m.
Treacy has attracted the attention of Burnley, Hull City and Ipswich Town.
