New York Red Bulls general manager Erik Soler says that the club is not worried about the age of their players.
Just days after bringing in 32-year old midfielder Dwayne De Rosario from Toronto FC, Soler said the club picked players on merit and not what is next to their date of birth column.
With Thierry Henry, Rafael Marquez and De Rosario all over 30, it seems that New York are placing all their trust in players who may not have much time left in the game, but Soler says that is not the case.
"I'm not worried about numbers when it comes to age," Soler said. "It's about how professional players are and how fit they are.
"We have [Juan Agudelo] at 18, he might be the first to go, we have Tim Ream at 23, he might be the first to go. This is the word of soccer, you never know.
"You simply have to have the best players, if they are 35 or 17, you pick the best players and that's our philosophy."
