New owners of Rangers by Christmas

Sky Sports News claims Andrew Ellis and Craig Whyte are looking to complete their takeover of Rangers before Christmas. The two businessmen, who are at the centre of the consortium looking to buy the Scottish Premier League club, are in negotiations with officials and talks have now reached an 'advanced stage'.

Ellis, who was involved in a previous attempt to buy Rangers, and self-made millionaire Whyte would invest major sums if the takeover of the Scottish champions goes ahead.

Their bid amounts to a reported £33million and, crucially, would wipe out Rangers' existing debt.

Talks between the duo and current owner Sir David Murray have been continuing for weeks and, while aiming to complete the deal this side of Christmas, Ellis and Whyte have acknowledged discussions could drag on into the New Year.

The pair are set to meet with senior officials at Ibrox sometime in the next week to carry on negotiations.
