New boy Gabriel in line for Arsenal debut, Welbeck to wait for Tottenham

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admits Gabriel Paulista could make his debut for the club this weekend.

The Gunners host Aston Villa on Sunday and will have Brazilian defender Gabriel in tow after he joined from Spanish club Villarreal during the week.

The 24-year old had played every La Liga match for Villarreal prior to his shift to north London and is in with a chance of debuting at home after being added to the matchday squad which beat Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup fourth round last weekend.

"The only other difference is that Gabriel is available and we'll check on how he is physically but he should be alright to be available," said Wenger.

The French tactician also revealed that striker Danny Welbeck is expected to be available for the north London derby with Tottenham on February 7 after missing the past five matches with a thigh injury.

"Welbeck is very close. He will join in normal training on Monday. He will be available for the Tottenham game," added Wenger.
