Muniesa nears Stoke return

Stoke City are set to be boosted by the return of Marc Muniesa.

The Spanish defender has been out of action since tearing a hamstring in February but managed to get through 60 minutes of an U21s match on Monday night.

Former Barcelona youngster Muniesa was on the bench for the weekend's loss to Swansea City and after being an unused sub, is ready for action when Tottenham come to town on Saturday.

"It was good for me to get some minutes and to build some rhythm for the next first-team game," Muniesa said. "After nine or ten weeks since I picked up the injury, it is difficult to come back again.

"I said to coaches after the game against Swansea that I didn't play in, that I wanted to play and wanted to be involved again.

"I was in the squad against Swansea so the under-21s match was just to test me and involve me in the game and for me it's always good to play.

"I felt ok after coming off, I was a little bit tired because it's always difficult after two-and-a-half months off to play again but I felt ok. I am back in training with the first team on Tuesday."
