Moyes remains leading contender to replace Garde at Aston Villa

Former Everton and Manchester United manager David Moyes is still the favourite to replace departed Aston Villa manager Remi Garde at Villa Park.

The Daily Mail is reporting that Moyes was first contacted about becoming Villa manager following the sacking of Tim Sherwood in November, but Garde was chosen for the role as Moyes was tied down with his commitments to La Liga outfit Real Sociedad.

It is understood Villa are keen to revisit their discussions with the Scotsman, who is no longer with the Spanish club.

Moyes is believed to have some concerns about taking over at the Birmingham-based club, with relegation this season all-but inevitable.

Garde's former assistant manager Eric Black is currently caretaker manager of the Villans.
