Everton boss David Moyes admits Tim Cahill "helped" him to establish himself as manager at Goodison Park. Moyes is delighted they beat Crystal Palace for the former Millwall midfielder almost ten years ago.
"The minute Tim came in he lit the place up," said Moyes, taking up the story. "He had that Aussie confidence saying 'I want to do this, I want to do that'. He actually had a chance to go to Crystal Palace, but they wouldn't pay the fees. If they had, he would have gone there.
"He helped me. When you are a new manager coming into a job, you have to make good signings to help your own position and to help the team get better. I think Cahill was a really good signing for £1.7million from Millwall."
Moyes added: "He is going to be one of a kind in our time. By the time his time has come to an end I hope he can have something to show for it, hopefully a trophy."
