Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho suggests Frank Lampard could succeed him as manager of the west London club.
36-year old midfielder Lampard is currently on loan with Manchester City after joining MLS expansion franchise New York City FC in the summer but could turn to management when his playing days are over according to Mourinho.
The Portuguese tactician has revealed that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich told Lampard he can come back to Stamford Bridge any time and the current Blues boss feels the club legend will one day take him up on that offer.
"I still believe that what this club proposed to him, which is to be back when he wants and to do what he wants - these were the words from Mr Abramovich - I think it's not in any danger," said Mourinho ahead of Sunday's Etihad Stadium clash between the two clubs.
"It's just a period of his career. We thought he was going to play for New York. He decided to play for City.
"It was just an option, and he had that right to do that. His place in Chelsea's history is untouchable. I think, in the future, nothing has been lost. He can be back one day, I think so.
"If he wants to be a manager, he could succeed me."
