Motherwell's McCall heaps praise on Dundee Utd after four-goal showing

Motherwell manager Stuart McCall has rated Dundee United's performance on Saturday as the best by any visiting team at Fir Park since he has been with the club.

Two goals from young gun Ryan Gauld and one each from John Rankin and Andrew Robertson led the Terrors to a 4-0 win at the Well's home ground and the showing from Jackie McNamara's side was certainly not lost on losing boss McCall.

"You don't want to lose at home by that margin but in all my time here that was the best performance of any visiting team and I include Celtic, Rangers and European opponents in that," McCall said.

"Sometimes you have to hold your hands up and say you were well beaten. I said at the start of the season that they had a good, young squad and they came here on the back of a couple of impressive away displays.

"We just have to lick our wounds and take it on the chin."

The loss left Motherwell in fourth position on the Scottish Premier League table as United stayed sixth despite having the best defensive record and second best goal difference in the competition.
