Middlesbrough defender Rhys Williams will have surgery after scans confirmed that he ruptured his Achilles tendon in Saturday's FA Cup win over Barnsley. It was his first start since sustaining a similar injury 11 months earlier, reports BBC Sport.
The injury has been described as "extremely rare" with Boro saying the 26-year-old Australia international has "damaged another part of the tendon," not related to the previous problem.
