Igancio Piatti admits he could now be playing in Mexico if things turned out differently.
The Argentine midfielder joined Montreal Impact from San Lorenzo in August last year and has shown glimpses of his brilliance since his arrival.
Last week, Piatti scored the opening goal in Montreal's 1-1 draw with Club America in the CONCACAF Champions League final first leg but it wasn't long ago that he was so close to laying his roots at the Estadio Azteca with las Aguilas.
"I could have gone to Mexico. They always look for players in Argentina," said Piatti ahead of Wednesday night's return bout in Montreal.
"Now it's a decisive game in a final. I am doing very well in Montreal, I feel very good and my only thought is to win this final."
Piatti is well aware that clinching the CCL trophy will be a difficult task but insists the Impact are up for the challenge.
"When I came here, I knew that we are in CONCACAF and to win [CCL] would be very difficult, but the dream was there," he added.
"As the games went on it became more of a reality and now I'm one game away from reaching that dream."
