Montreal Impact never had $8m transfer in place for Udinese's Di Natale

Montreal Impact owner Joey Saputo has poured cold water over suggestions that his team has a deal in place for Antonio Di Natale.

The MLS club were being linked with a $8million move for the 37-year old Udinese striker but Saputo has categorically denied those claims.

"Di Natale is using MLS to improve his contract with Udinese," Saputo told the Montreal media on Wednesday.

"I'll tell you clearly, honestly: no one has offered Di Natale four million dollars [a season] for two years. Guaranteed. No one in the league gave him that.

"He's just using that to try to better his offer. And the problem is that, again, a lot of people are starting to use MLS as that 'you know what, there's a lot of money available there.'

"So we have to be very, very careful. Di Natale is not a profile we would go after, guys."

Former Italy international Di Natale, who joined Udinese from Empoli back in 2004, comes out of contract with the Zebrette at the end of the current Serie A season.
