Montreal Impact are now looking to AC Milan great Clarence Seedorf as negotiations with Michael Ballack have stalled.
The MLS expansion franchise are hoping to sign another Designated Player after bringing in Italian striker Marco Di Vaio recently and were in talks with ex-Chelsea and Bayer Leverkusen star Ballack but that has appeared to have cooled off.
Now the Impact are in pursuit of 36-year old Seedorf according to general manager Nick De Santis.
"We know that he's been busy with ESPN and the Euros coming. We did back off a little as well. We'll see what comes with that."
He added: "Clarence Seedorf is one of them (transfer targets). It's too early to say if there's a big reality to it.
"But he's a player that we feel because of where's he's played at and the level he's played at, along with the type of person he is, would present a lot of good things as a DP in Montreal.""We did make an offer to Michael. I think we were still not on the same page on that aspect and that's where discussions stopped," De Santis told Goal.com.
More recent reports suggest that the Impact will have to battle Brazilian club Botafogo who are chasing Seedorf's signature hard.
