Monterrey striker Humberto Suazo was on the verge of making the move to MLS during the offseason.
The 31-year old Chile international, who was set to come out of contract in June this year, was in talks regarding a move to Chicago Fire a few months ago but nothing eventuated.
"We were very close and there were tentative terms and a verbal agreement in place," said MLS vice-president of player relations and competition, Lino DiCuollo.
Suazo has since signed a long-term extension with Monterrey, keeping him with La Rayados until June 2016.
