Monk sets sights on summer after Swansea miss out on Europa League

Garry Monk is looking to the summer transfer window after Swansea City failed to sneak into Europa League calculations.

The Swans lost 4-2 at home to Manchester City on Sunday which has resigned them to an eighth-place finish on the Premier League table.

Monk has seen his side record a club-record points tally in the top flight this term and will now look to exceed that in the next domestic campaign after strengthening the playing group in the summer.

"I think we've shown quite clearly with the run of form we've been on that we wanted to get into Europe," Monk said.

"We pushed all the way to try to get there and it would have been a great reward for the season we've had.

"But hopefully now we have a chance to recruit properly and try to surpass what we have done this year in the Premier League, although we know it will be tough."
