Swansea City boss Garry Monk says he shopped in January with the view to the long-term.
Monk admits he was offered the opportunity to make short-term additions.
He told WalesOnline: "I didn't want to sign anyone who couldn't help us in the future. Everyone throws names at you, and then there are loans, all of which could help us in the short term. But I was looking at the long term.
"I didn't want people who would be here for a month or so and that was reflected in all the signings.
"I looked at Kyle Naughton and saw the characteristics he could bring in and it was the same with Matty Grimes and Jack Cork. I tried to push for Jack in the summer and was quite surprised the opportunity was there to sign him again.
"Nelson (Oliveira) hasn't had a lot of minutes but you can see the quality he has and it will be down to him to take his chance."
