Monchengladbach join race but Nurnberg's Drmic set for Arsenal

Borussia Monchengladbach are believed to be showing significant interest in FC Nurnberg striker Josip Drmic.

Bild suggests that 'Gladbach have been watching the 21-year old Swiss international closely and will make a move for him in the summer after his tally of 16 goals in 31 Bundesliga appearances since joining der Club from FC Basel in July.

However, the North Rhine outfit will have plenty of competition from Arsenal who have been heavily linked with Drmic for the past few months.

Former Germany captain Lothar Matthaus recently suggested that Drmic had been house-hunting in London with his wife, indicating that a move to the Emirates Stadium was imminent, but the player denied those claims.

But Matthaus has returned with more comments stating that Drmic will indeed be heading to north London this coming summer.

"Although now Dortmund, Gladbach and Leverkusen all have an interest. I'm saying: Josip Drmic will switch to Arsenal," Matthaus told Swiss daily Blick.

"I made a mistake. I said his wife was already looking for apartments. The fact is that this is his girlfriend. Drmic has had a girlfriend for nine months. She has lived five or six months with him in Nuremberg.

"Look, if a journalist hears something, he researched and wrote that then it's true. I'm kind of a journalist and have heard the rumour of a move to Arsenal. I then found out that this is true."
