AS Monaco are preparing a bid for Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany.
L'Equipe says Monaco are willing to offer €22 million for the Belgium centre-half as they seek to assemble a squad capable of making an instant impact in next season's Champions League.
The stumbling block will be Kompany's current €8 million salary, with Monaco having to overcome France's ridiculous 75 per cent tax laws.
