MLS in no rush to find franchise for LA Galaxy's Beckham

MLS Commissioner Don Garber says Major League Soccer are in no hurry to make a decision just which franchise David Beckham will buy into. The 36-year old midfielder has a clause in his MLS contract which allows him to own a club in North America's domestic league but it can only kick in once he stops playing.

Beckham's contract with LA Galaxy expires at the end of the current MLS season but it is unclear on what he will do in 2012 as the club has offered him an extension.

Garber said that once Beckham's playing career is over, then they will sit down and work out exactly where he is going to make an investment.

"David has the option for our 20th team and that option can't be exercised until after 2011 or after he stops playing," Garber said.

"So we've got some time to figure this one out."

Beckham has been most heavily linked with incoming franchise New York Cosmos whilst potential teams from Miami, San Diego, Oklahoma and Cincinatti are also a chance of having the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star involved.
