League One club MK Dons are hoping to sign Alan Smith permanently according to Sky Sports.
The 31-year old forward is out of contract at Newcastle United next month and the Dons are looking to swoop after he spent part of last season on loan at Stadium:mk.
MK narrowly missed out on promotion last term, losing to eventual play-off winners Huddersfield Town in the semi-finals and manager Karl Robinson is looking to keep the former Leeds United star on his books.
