MK Dons hero Benik Afobe admits Van Persie big influence on Man Utd shock

MK Dons striker Benik Afobe credited former Arsenal teammate Robin van Persie for his heroics against Manchester United last night.

Afobe, on-loan from Arsenal, scored twice in the 4-0 Capital One Cup rout.

While Van Persie was at Arsenal, he took young Afobe under his wing.

Afobe last night beamed: "I'm sure he's going to be happy but not too happy because he plays for Manchester United and he would have wanted them to go through!"

Van Persie said back in 2012: "He is a fantastic lad, a really good character to have in the squad and a player I genuinely rate, so I'm really proud of him.

"He absolutely loves his football and treats it very seriously. That is the main thing for a young footballer - if you really love the game like he does then you will make it, and he has everything to become a great player."
