Mijatovic warns Real Madrid: Don't repeat Raul, Casillas mistakes with Ramos

Former Real Madrid sporting director Pedja Mijatovic says the club must secure Sergio Ramos to a new contract.

The Real captain is in tense negotiations over a new deal, with Real reluctant to go beyond a rolling 12 month deal for the 34 year-old.

Mijatovic said, “We can't afford to help other teams with our players. Those players are ours. I would like to see this policy return to Real Madrid, but unfortunately that is not the case.

"Raúl had a wonderful history at Real Madrid, but left in a bad way. And that also applied to Fernando Hierro and Iker Casillas.

“Now the story is circulating that Ramos will also leave. His contract has to be extended for two or three years, it doesn't matter.

“This boy has to finish his career with Real Madrid per se. He is important, almost a treasure for the club. For what he has done in the past and what he can do in the future. Maybe not on the pitch, but he can teach young Real Madrid footballers how to play, how to behave and how to adapt. That's how it should be."
