Middlesbrough's Wheater credits Young for fullback success

Middlesbrough defender David Wheater says his success at right-back in Saturday's win over Tottenham was thanks to ex-teammate Luke Young.

After the £6million sale of Young to Aston Villa, the England U-21 centre-back filled in on the flank for the first game of the season.

And with new signing Justin Hoyte ineligible, Wheater scored during a man-of-the-match performance.

"I don't see myself as a right-back but I was texting Luke Young before the game and he gave me some tips, so I was well happy," said Wheater.

"The manager asked me how I would feel about playing at right-back and I said I was happy as long as it meant I was in the team."
