Middlesbrough's move for Afonso Alves won't stop them from bringing fellow Brazilian Fred to Teesside.
The Evening Gazette says Boro are also keen on a second Brazilian, the Lyon striker Fred, and are also ready to pay £10m to bring the player to Teesside.
It is believed that the 24-year-old would jump at the chance to join Boro, though the latest reports from France claim that Lyon want £18m.
If Boro can find their way through the haze which has descended over the Alves saga, and can reach an agreement with Lyon, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that Boro could sign both Brazilians.
This could happen if Boro sell Stewart Downing to Spurs, and will also be dependent on work permits being issued.
