Middlesbrough signing Given: I'm back in football's hotbed

Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given is delighted with his loan move to Middlesbrough.

Given will join a rather exclusive club of only a handful of players to have played for all of the North East's big three clubs after joining Middlesbrough on loan for a month from Aston Villa.

"I'm delighted, it was a bit rushed getting in for the 5 o'clock deadline, I'm delighted to be here and I can't wait for Saturday, that's what you want to do, you want to play football and I'm really looking forward to the game," he told Sky Sports News.

"I've seen Woody (Jonathan Woodgate) this morning, he's not changed a bit, aged a bit, it's always nice to know someone in the changing room, but all the lads have made me feel really welcome and it's nice to be back out training, nice to be back in the North East as well.

"I spent a long time here, obviously at Sunderland, a long time with Newcastle, so it's nice to be at Middlesbrough now, so it's fantastic.

"The North East is a hot-bed of football, really passionate fans and hopefully the fans will be impressed with me. I want them to judge me on my performances not what I've done in the past but what I do for this football club. I'm raring to get going and play well."
