Newly promoted Premier League side Middlesbrough are planning to make a move for Southampton reject Gaston Ramirez.

Ramirez proved to be a huge flop at Southampton following his £12million move back in 2012 but the Uruguayan international did make an impact while on loan at Boro, playing a key role in the Teesside club's promotion from the Championship.

Now Ramirez is available on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with the Saints and talkSPORT suggest that Aitor Karanka's Middlesbrough are planning to snap up the 25-year-old on a permanent deal this summer.
