Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate admits he knows where he needs to strengthen his team after their 3-0 thumping by Birmingham City.

He said: "We know the areas of the side which need strengthening. One or two games do not alter that fact.

"I think relegation battles start six games from the end of the season and we are currently in a position in the table we do not want to be and we have to do something about it - starting at Portsmouth."
