Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate is confident securing defender David Wheater to a new contract.

"We think and believe David wants to be part of this football club," said Southgate. "His performances have been outstanding, he and Robert Huth are forming a terrific partnership.

"David is doing his negotiating on the field and what he's done over the last couple of months has added to the contract he will get."
