Middlesbrough boss Karanka heaps praise on Chelsea loanee Bamford

Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka was full of praise for Chelsea loanee Patrick Bamford on Tuesday night.

The 21-year old striker netted the only goal of the game as Boro beat Derby County 1-0 at iPro Stadium, helping the Teessiders move to second place in the Championship.

Former Rams loanee Bamford scored his 14th league goal of the season which sees Boro level on points with league leaders Watford but behind on goal difference.

Boro boss Karanka said: "Nobody can be surprised by Patrick's goal.

"He has taken the main responsibility for scoring and he has the confidence to make the most of his chances."

Of the win over fifth-placed Derby, Karanka added: "This was a very important win and I was very pleased with the spirit we produced for such a big test.

"Derby are one of the best sides but we gave them very few chances and came away with a big win.

"Now we face more tough games against Bournemouth, Watford and Norwich so we must continue to show the same character."
