Mexico coach Martino happy as Monterrey striker Funes Mori accelerates passport process

Monterrey striker Rogelio Funes Mori is close to gaining his Mexican passport.

The Argentine has been open to playing for El Tri - and encouraged by Mexico coach Tata Martino.

ESPN report Funes Mori is seeking to accelerate his naturalisation process, with the aim of finishing at the end of 2020 or early 2021, which would mean being available for the FIFA international round that will be played in the month of March 2021.

Martino has recently stated: "Today Funes Mori is not summoned, the moment he finishes his paperwork, we consider it.

"The reality is that we called players who are legally able to play in the Mexican National Team and can contribute, the moment this happens I will make the decision, I do not like to talk about the naturalised or not, we called players who may be in the Tricolor."
