Mexico again too good for USA

The US national team have again gone down to Mexico, but this time in a World Cup qualifier (2-1). Bob Bradley's charges hit the lead in the th minute through Charlie Davies before Mexico hit back ten minutes later through Israel Macias Castro at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

El Tri then took the lead nine minutes from time thanks to Miguel Sabah to give the home side an important fourth round qualifying victory.

US goal scorer Charlie Davies said it was a difficult match but the team was disappointed to come away with a loss.

On the match: "It's definitely difficult. We wanted to come in here and not only play well, but we wanted to make history and get a win today. Unfortunately, they were able to score right after we were able to get one early and then they scored late in the second half."

On if this was a missed opportunity: "We know we're a great team and I think we have what it takes to win here, but today we were a little bit unlucky. They were able to control most of the game with possession, and I think that's what hurt us."

On his ninth-minute goal: "I was able to get in a good position between the center back and the outside back, and Landon [Donovan] obviously made a great pass. I was able to get a good first touch and put it around Ochoa."

On the silence after the goal: "It's amazing. This is what you live for, especially as a striker, scoring big-time goals. Hopefully, there's more to come."

On the loss: "It's a learning experience definitely, and we're just going to grow from this as a team."
