Melbourne Victory's Kemp has knee surgery

Melbourne Victory defender Matthew Kemp has had an arthroscopy on his right knee this afternoon, most likely ruling him out for the remainder of the AFC Champions League group stage.

After undergoing a full reconstruction of the same knee in February 2010, Kemp returned to the pitch in December and made 8 appearances for the club at the back-end of the 2010/11 Hyundai A-League season. He was also in the starting XI for the clubs most recent games against Gamba Osaka and Jeju United.

Over the past few weeks Kemp began to experience some discomfort in the joint and after consultation with the clubs medical staff, it was agreed that a minor operation was the best course of action.

It is hoped that Kemp will be back training in 2 - 3 weeks.
