Melbourne Victory not changing anything for Beijing Guoan clash

Melbourne Victory coach Ernie Merrick says that he will not be changing anything as his players prepare for the Asian Champions League. The reigning A-League champions take on Chinese Super League champions Beijing Guoan at the Beijing Workers Stadium tomorrow night in the first group stage match and Merrick is confident his normal attacking style is the way to go.

"If it ain't broke don't fix it," Merrick said.

"When you play as many games as we have played over the last five years with a proven goalscoring record you don't change your style.

"I think that's the way the better teams in Europe play. The lesser teams play conservative football all the time not just in away games.

"But the better teams play in attack all the time and this style has been very successful for us and we won't change.

"Having said that, I think we are getting even better at defending. We are getting our strikers and midfielders to do a very good defensive job.

"So our play is not like gung-ho attack, yet we still try to get numbers forward and score goals."
