Melbourne Victory new boy Kewell insists he is fit

Harry Kewell wants to make it clear that he is not an injury-prone player and insists that he is fully fit ahead of the upcoming A-League season.

The big-name Melbourne Victory signing is often criticised by the media for being on the sidelines, especially during his Liverpool days, but he backed up his words with some surprising statistics which indicate perhaps he is not as crocked as some say.

"A lot of people brand me as this player that has been injured," he said. "Okay, I had three seasons at Liverpool where I was injured.

"Not many people realise that I played 42 games and that's more than a lot of players all over the world. Even before that I played 35 games.

"I've been putting my fair share of games into seasons, it's just that when I do miss a game, it kind of becomes public knowledge and everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon."

And the former Leeds United and Galatasaray winger added that he is ready to play a full game of football right now, denying claims that he needs to get to full fitness ahead of the impending season.

"I've been working personally for eight weeks and have been in contact with Victory for three weeks and working with their programs," he said.

"I'm feeling good and good enough to go out there and play football and start participating in games."
