Brisbane Roar coach Ange Postecoglou is Melbourne Victory's No1 candidate to succeed Ernie Merrick.

Merrick was shown the door by Victory's new board on Saturday in a controversial decision from the fallen Australian giants.

Postecoglou has quickly been installed as favourite to fill the void, but Victory management face a battle bringing the title winning coach home.

Football Federation Australia, which this week takes over the running of the cash-strapped Roar, insist Postecoglou will remain their coach into next season.
