Melbourne's Kemp rues missed opportunity

Melbourne Victory's Matthew Kemp has rued another missed opportunity for his side.

The Victory allowed the Newcastle Jets back in the contest at Etihad Stadium last night after dominating much of the 90 minutes, giving up a one goal lead with three minutes remaining to play out a 1-1 draw.

Melbourne were the better side on the evening but not take their chances and had to settle for a point, something that frustrated Kemp when speaking after the match.

"It's just not falling for us at the moment,'' Kemp said.

"We're creating chances and we dominated most of the game and sometimes they fall for you and sometimes they don't. I thought we did enough to win the game."

The former Adelaide United defender blamed himself for allowing the Jets in and admitted he has to do better in the future.

"Unfortunately I made a mistake at the back and that cost us dearly," he added.

"That's the way football is. You can't make mistakes like that. That's my job to stop crosses and I didn't do that.

"So I apologise to the boys for that. It's a tough result. We can play well and not get the points, but here at home, especially, anything other than three points is not good enough.

"We go out to win and that's what we did,'' Kemp said.

"Unfortunately, we didn't achieve our goal. We gave it a good shot and came up a bit short.''
