Melbourne Heart on verge of securing ex-Lillestrom, Coventry striker Mifsud

Melbourne Heart are believed to be closing in on the signing of Maltese great Michael Mifsud.

The 32-year old striker has been in talks with the A-League club and according to Heart CEO Scott Munn, a deal is very close.

"We hope to get this deal over the line because his presence would boost our home gates for sure because there are many Maltese living in Melbourne," Munn told SBS.

"He is a hero among the Maltese."

However, Munn later posted on Twitter:

Nonetheless, negotiations are believed to be in place to bring the Sliema Wanderers legend to Melbourne on a free transfer.

During his career, Mifsud has also played for Germany's FC Kaiserslautern, Norway's Lillestrom, England's Coventry City and Barnsley and most recently with homeland club Valletta. He has also scored close to 40 international goals for Malta.
