Melbourne Heart v Newcastle Jets preview

One teams season keeps getting better as the other battles with poor results and absent players.

The Jets are back on track after a slow start to the season and are coming off a stirring win away at North Queensland on the weekend.

Their roll of five matches without a loss ties in with guest striker Francis Jeffers being at the club. The Englishman has been involved in every game during that run and fortunately for the Jets, their lucky charm has been passed fit to take on the Heart despite some groin soreness.

Branko Culina is beginning to keep his players on the park after a horror run with injuries and suspension and has probably the best-performed defence in the league led by Ljubo Milicevic and Nikolai Topor-Stanley, which should be able to handle a seemingly toothless Melbourne attack.

In the Heart camp, John van 't Schip has some major problems with four losses and a draw in their past five encounters and a handful of first team players unavailable.

Speedy Brazilian forward Alex Terra will miss with a hamstring injury and right-back Michael Marrone is in doubt whilst midfield duo Josip Skoko(groin) and Wayne Srhoj (suspended) are out again.

The newest A-League club need to do something here to stop the rot but I'm afraid I cannot see it happening as the Jets will continue their push to the finals.

Verdict: Jets 1-0
