Melbourne Heart recruit Matt Thompson is looking forward to taking on his old Newcastle Jets teammates when the two clubs clash in a pre-season match in Morwell next Thursday.
The 27-year old midfielder and former Jets captain will now don the red and white of the A-League's newest team but after undergoing knee surgery in the off-season, may only be available for a limited amount of game time for the Newcastle meeting.
"Hopefully I will get half an hour against the Jets," Thompson told the Newcastle Herald.
"It has been frustrating being injured. You feel like you have to start again, impress again, but I'm looking forward to it."
And Thompson added that the training he is experiencing under Heart coach John van 't Schip is different to what he was used to whilst at the Jets.
"It is very similar to the way [Socceroos coach] Pim Verbeek conducts his sessions," he added.
"Very intense, no more than an hour fifteen in duration and a lot of passing drills.
"We get in, do it properly and get out."
