Melbourne City head to Abu Dhabi for mid-season camp

A-League club Melbourne City FC will travel to Abu Dhabi as part of their preparations for the remainder of the 2014/15 season.

The City squad leave on Thursday to undertake a 12-day training camp at the New York University Abu Dhabi campus while the A-League campaign pauses for the Asian Cup between January 7 and 24.

Part of City's camp in the second most populous city of the UAE will see them take on Al-Jazira at the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium on January 11.

Of the trip, Melbourne City head coach John van 't Schip said: "This camp in Abu Dhabi will be a great opportunity for our team to continue to play matches against high-quality opposition, train at a high-level and maintain our fitness.

"It will also allow new players, such as Josh Kennedy, and players returning from injury such as Robi Koren, to spend valuable time on the pitch with our existing playing group as we work together on our goals for the second half of the A-League season."

The Melbourne formerly known as the Heart, who are owned by English Premier League champions Manchester City, currently sit sixth on the A-League table with four wins and four draws from 13 league fixtures.
