McKay backs McClaren for Blackburn job

Steve McClaren is being backed for the vacant manager's job at Blackburn Rovers.

Don McKay, who was in charge of Rovers from 1987-1991, believes McClaren has the right credentials to succeed Hughes who left to take up the job at Manchester City.

"I've worked with Steve and he had undeserved bad press for the way England failed to reach Euro 2008," McKay told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"Blackburn need a manager like Steve who can bring through young players."

Alan Shearer has also been linked with the role but McKay added: "I'm not being disrespectful but he person they bring in has got to have managerial experience."
