Former Manchester United centre-half Paul McGrath says finding the right central defensive signings will be no easy task for manager Louis van Gaal.
McGrath wrote in the Sunday World: "Many United supporters believe signing a couple of world class centre-backs is the answer and while that is fine in principle, you tell me who they can go out and buy in January. Think for a minute now okay, you probably have as many names in your mind right now as me. None!
"We all knew that United needed central defenders this summer following the departures of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, but Van Gaal failed to sign a quality central defender for this season and there is a reason for that - there simply aren't any out there."
